Here at AAI Head Quarters, we are very excited with the recently launched TV commercials raising the awareness of asbestos in both residential and commercial properties.

The ad focused on residential properties brings to light the fact that not only humans can die from asbestos related diseases – but also your beloved pets.

On average, dogs that are diagnosed with an asbestos related disease are around the age of 8 but can be diagnosed in a puppy of just 7 weeks of age. Unlike humans, the average onset of an asbestos related disease is approximately 2 years after exposure where are humans are anywhere from 10-50 years.

Cats are also at risk of developing asbestos related diseases and will usually die within 12months of exposure.

Most people consider their pets to be part of the family and the thought of killing them is unimaginable. But this is what can easily happen if you are not careful.

Conducting an asbestos audit on any home that was built before 2004 is essential for everyone. This guarantees peace of mind that there is no asbestos containing materials in your home. You may be fine and have no asbestos containing materials in your house. But could you live with yourself if there was and your whole family was exposed?

You may be thinking ‘I am not planning on renovating, why should I be worried?’ Asbestos products deteriorate over time and fibres can be released into the air without you knowing. You may also accidently knock a hole in the wall or ceiling and if you didn’t know that they contained asbestos you wouldn’t think twice about it.

The second ad, really highlights the fact that unchecked and not maintained asbestos containing materials can be slowly killing you.

Unless have had an audit, you cannot be 100% sure that your building or workplace is asbestos free.

Commercial Property managers are responsible for organising an asbestos audit for the buildings that they manage. If they fail to do so, they are liable if any employees become sick in the future.
